GHOSTMACHINE Gallery is pleased to present Andreia Santana’s first solo exhibition in New York, showcasing sculptural works that deconstruct and redefine materiality and the boundaries between the corporeal, the natural, and the built environment. Through spatial and atmospheric transformations, Metabolic Self presents sculptures resembling garments that suggest a human body while withholding its physical form. By highlighting how our perception of the self relies on physical appearance, Santana’s work begins to dismantle the social conventions that construct and shape the subject. By granting agency to matter, the sculptures become active participants in transcorporeal processes, intra-acting across the boundaries between subject and object, animate and inanimate, and challenging established norms and assumptions about the body.
