Open Call 2025

GHOSTMACHINE Gallery is pleased to announce an Open Call for  SOLO/TWO-person Exhibition (individual applications only) that will be on view from August 1st, 2025 through August 30th, 2025 in our storefront location on 23 Monroe St in Chinatown/LES neighborhood in New York.

The Open Call is for individual applications. This year’s selected artists will be chosen by guest curator Pallavi Surana, an arts writer and curator based in New York.

We welcome submissions from visual artists of all disciplines, ages, and backgrounds. Finalist/s will be selected based on the strength of their work and demonstrated commitment to their practice. Please note that selected artist/s will be expected to participate in installation, deinstallation, and the opening reception.

All applications will be kept on file for consideration in future group exhibitions, art fairs, and off-site projects.

Pallavi Surana is an arts writer and curator based in New York. She is currently working on projects with Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and with curator Cecilia Alemani, as well as a group exhibition opening at Smack Mellon in June 2025. Previously, she has held positions at SculptureCenter and Hessel Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Art and Photography (MAP), Flint, and St+India Foundation in India; as well as the Cookhouse Gallery and the Camden Arts Centre in London. Her writing has appeared in publications like Eflux Criticism, ARTnews, The Art Newspaper and Ocula, among others. Pallavi has been a visiting critic at various residencies around New York City such as Pioneer Works, EFA Studios and NARS foundation, among others.

GHOSTMACHINE Gallery provides a platform for artists to showcase artwork in a supportive and collaborative environment. We operate outside of the traditional commercial gallery system, allowing for more experimentation and creative freedom in the exhibitions while working closely with the artist community to give exposure to other artists and curators. Our goal is to create an equal opportunity platform and showcase a diverse range of voices and cultural backgrounds. The inspiration behind this project is to establish a collective art space that empowers artists to work alongside curators to create exceptionally unique shows. We aim to disrupt the flawed hierarchy system by prioritizing the artists’ direct voice. This will result in a stronger connection between the art and the audience.
